Busker in the Mall Banner

Welcome to the May edition of Camera Clips.  I apologize that I have missed a number of club events this last quarter, including several of the excursions, the first critique night and the “faith” competition.  The banner this month comes from the “Music” competition. I was impressed by this picture by Dana Florea of a busker in Rundle Mall.  You can see a commentary and more images from the club competitions on the BPC web page.

Image9Earlier in the year we had an excellent presentation by Arthur Farmer.  It was full of advice and tips and useful quotes.  Chris Schultz gave me his notes from the session and I have written a summary of Arthur’s presentation.  Arthur quoted from several famous and popular photographers in his talk.  I have provided short biographies of these photographers for those who have not heard of the likes of Ansel Adams, Magnum Photo Agency or Edward Weston.

Rawsley Park SunsetrI have been having an e-mail discussion with Richard Akroyd on the quality of light.  This has resulted in an article.  Richard is a deep thinker and he has some useful insights.  It is also a great opportunity to see some of Richard’s images.  You can also see my response to Richard’s initial correspondence.

Repetition-1Do you hate it when someone points to one of your images and says “Photoshop”? I know I do.  However we do use photoshop a lot to enhance our images.  What gives us away?  Often it is poor technique.  I have listed 12 mistakes that I have made in Phopshop that give the impression of  poorly handled post processing.  I hope that this list is useful to you.

Trent ParkeDid you get to see the Black Rose?  It is a photograophic exhibition at the Adelaide art Gallery by Trente Parke.  You may have seen Chris’s e-mails about the ABC program and the talk by the artist at the art gallery.  Graham Brice has written a reflective review of “The black Rose” in this edition.

Bruce NankivellAshley our president has been on holidays in Thailand.  Another of our members, Bruce Nankivell has been walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain.  You can see some of his stunning photography by visiting his blog.

Untitled-8b (2)I have written a brief “how to” article on the use of selection tools in photoshop.  I had alluded to the use of selection tools in the last edition of camera clips.  There is more to be said on this topic.  I would welcome anyone who wishes to add to my comments.  just send me an e-mail at jandfallan@internode.on.net .

Helen 1aAlso check out the late arrivals to last months Camera Clips.  Helen came good and has written an article on problems with sync speed.

Well that’s it for this month.  I hope that you enjoy what has been presented.
